Why You and Your Partner Need a Kid-Free Holiday

Family vacations are great ways to bond and make some wonderful memories together, but as parents, do you have to take your kids with you on every getaway? No, you don’t. Making time for you and your partner to go away together without your brood in tow could be highly beneficial for both you and your children. Here are some key reasons why going on a kid-free holiday could be just what the doctor ordered for all of you.

A Chance for You and Your Partner to Reconnect
Relationships are hard work, and when you add kids into the mix, life will only get more testing. This isn’t to say having children will spoil a relationship; on the contrary, children can make a relationship stronger and happier. However, as being a parent is one of the biggest challenges in life, these kinds of pressure can also put a strain on your relationship. Usually, this is because your attention shifts to caring for your kids, and sometimes this can result in partners drifting apart from one another because there is little time or energy for romance-- but you must make the effort with each other so you don’t start to take each other for granted. Going away together without the kids is the perfect way for you both to reconnect on this level. If you want to find some ideas for a romantic getaway with your partner, look at Mr Hudson Explores or similar travel sites for a selection of guides and tips.

An Opportunity for Your Kids to Develop Other Relationships
If you’re going to go away without the kids, you’ll need to find someone willing to look after them while you’re away. Whether this is their grandparents, aunt or uncle, or a close family friend, having your children stay with these important figures in your life will help them develop their relationships with them. It’s a wonderful bonding experience and can teach them the importance of making time for extended family members and friends, which will hopefully help them develop healthy relationships themselves later in life.

No Pressure to Entertain
Going on holiday with the kids can be fun, and if you choose the right resort and destination there should be plenty of activities to keep them occupied. However, as kids can be fickle about what they want to do, and might have a tendency to sulk when they’re bored or tired, there is always a sense of pressure to keep them entertained as a parent so you know they’re having a good time. Going away with just your partner removes that pressure to keep the kids happy, and allows you both to spend time doing what you’d like to do, even if that’s just spending the afternoon sipping cocktails on the beach!

You’ll Appreciate Them More
You will miss your kids when you’re away without them, but this will only make you appreciate them even more when you finally do reunite, and visa-versa. Additionally, if you have struggled with the idea of not spending every day with your kids, a break for just you and your partner will make you realize you can be apart from them, and that it’s good for you and them to do this occasionally.
If you and your partner need some time alone, book a vacation for just the two of you--whether it’s for a week or just a long weekend. You’ll come back feeling refreshed and relaxed.
