I often allow Kate and Oakley to answer the many questions I receive regarding autism. This time I decided I would take a turn answering a few questions from our "fans". I think you'll be impressed by my articulation and restraint.

Is Autism just the 'flavour of the week' for diagnoses?

Don't be so fucking stupid. Diagnoses of neurological disorders don't run on trend like a goddamn nail polish colour. The number of autism diagnoses are rising because the number of children born with autism is rising you fucking asshole. Read a fucking book.

Why should I give special treatment to your kid? No body does that for me. What about me?

First of all, that's the stupidest thing I have ever heard you fucking narcissistic prick. My child struggles to comprehend the world and each day can be devastatingly overwhelming. You are a selfish and annoying arsehole who peaked in high school.

What the hell can a dog do to help a kid with autism? I think the whole thing is bullshit.

You listen to me you piece of shit. That dog is more of a man than you'll ever be. If you ever question the abilities and worth of my daughter's fucking awesome autism service dog again I will make sure his numerous fans know where you live and each one will school your weak ass on the benefits of these dogs.

Frankly, I am sick of hearing about autism. Do you ever talk about anything else?

Men, women, children....listen to me!! Dogs? Well..., you may be safe, but keep those puppy dog eyes in check.... and for goodness sake, maintain proper leash control!! Now, as for the rest of you!! Keep your heads down... that's good... Walk past, slowly..., focus on your toes... good!!! Continue moving forward, until you are well past... And for the love of god, DO NOT make eye contact....

Sometimes, I think we all need to hear responses to our questions/comments in the same manor and tone we have chosen to pose them. (We can all benefit by looking into a mirror every once in a while.) I'd say, mission accomplished! Maybe some of the habitual critics will take a few extra moments to review, and critique their own belief systems, instead of simply providing quick judgement on situations they likely haven't experienced themselves.

Yes! Especially the diagnosis bullshit. I'm so over being told that diagnosis is just better these days. Like I wouldn't have noticed kids in my class screaming their heads off and smearing shit everywhere whilst banging their heads on the ground and biting themselves (what my kids do often).

I'm thinking some of the emails are trolls... Or at least I hope nobody is that dumb.

My younger cousin is autistic. He has a regular dog, not even a service dog, and he absolutely loves the dog. So there you go, even normal dogs can help. There was a video on the BBC about an autistic child with a service dog too, talking about the benefits. I'm sure some googling can find that. It was recent I think.

I don't blame you for feeling this way. I have autism myself and have an autistic son, I get all kinds of ignorant, mean BS for speaking out. Frankly enough is enough. People either need to be willing to be educated, or go away. I've responded this way before. Sometimes you just need to and it feels good. Btw your "dear daddy" blog ...I'm bawling my eyes out! that was amazing! I relate both as a mother in your position, and as a once in yer face, talkative, idiosyncratic little girl that was shunned and shamed all over the place.
