Today I reached out to my Uncle Brendan in Vancouver for advice on an Autism therapy that Alex and I are considering. In his reply he suggested I begin a website/blog to reach out to other parents of children with autism. We are certainly in the thick of things now with trying to wrap our heads around Kate's diagnosis and organize her therapies. So, after thinking about it for a few minutes (literally minutes because Brendan gives the best advice) I decided I would start this blog. If it only reaches the members of "Team Kate" then that is fine with me. You never know, maybe Alex and I will help someone by sharing our story here. Ultimately, we would like to keep a strong network of people working together to not only help our Kate but to explore more progressive and cutting edge therapies for Autism. Furthermore, to hold accountable those therapies that are common place today and to spread the word about how many families are dealing with autism today. 1 in 88. So, thank you Uncle Bren, for starting us down this road. Thank you for being on "Team Kate" and we love you very much.

Shanell, I would be honored to join Kate's team and support you, Alex, Grace, and Kate while you explore the often mystifying world of autism. Each day I work with amazing students who are discovering new ways to express themselves and fit into our fickle world and they are teaching me so much about what it is like to be alone and isolated in their own private world that we call autism. Kate is so lucky to have amazing parents who will research and advocate on her behalf. Sending hugs and best wishes to you all and wishing you the best of luck.

I am so excited about the possibilities! So glad we can keep you updated too. When I looked this morning the site had 145 hits. That blows my mind. That is 145 people reading our story and who knows what connections can be made. I hope more people read and comment. This is fun!

I hear you. I have a cousin with autism. I have a son who is DeafBlind and in his own world for a different reason. However the therapies are very similar with both types of kids. Check out my blog and comment on it for me... I will follow yours as well...

Hi Heather, it is not my cousin but my daughter. I will definitely check out your blog. Your other comment mentioned that there is no way to subscribe to the blog and you are right. I don't know how to add that to the site. I am working on it now. I am not very savvy when it comes to these things so when you click on the new link to subscribe it may not work. I'll keep trying though :)
