Dear Santa, Here is our list in order of importance: 1. Autism awareness and acceptance throughout the world, etc. etc. 2. Sleep 3. Piles of money. (Literally, piles of it) 4. The reflexes of a ninja when little teeth come at us. 5. The strength of a small child in a full on meltdown when our child is in a full on meltdown. 6. The restraint of a monk when parenting advice is offered at the grocery store. 7. The patience of a Saint to watch Toy Story/Ninja Turtles/Thomas again and again. 8. The liver of a champ and the metabolism of a teenager to make it through this holiday. That should do it, Santa. Cheers, Autism Parents Everywhere

Pretty much what my list is every year except for # 7. Insert Harry Potter and The Polar Express.

Very nice. As they get older, you really need to ask Santa for teacher's and especially teacher's aide salaries to be increased tenfold.

All of the above with some Cars and Sponge Bob. Also a quiet, alone , mini vacation with hubby knowing our child is being cared for. And better resource teaches/aides trained in ABA therapy in school and at hime. So much money is given away to other countries and even here in the USA that is not necessary that our forgotten children with special needs are left in the cold!!!! And I don't have a child with Autism but I see what my niece endures. We are not treating these children and their families fairly!
This system is balls, as they say, and I won't bother with it next time. Waiting was brutal for Kate and we had to spend much of our time trying to calm her down as we stood outside of an attraction. Enough of that, on to the good stuff.
As a teacher in Sunday School to a child with Autism I would like the reflexes of a ninja and the strength of a small child! I would never trade a single day I have had with the children I have taught but those two would help some days. Thank you for this blog, it is an amazing thing to even us Sunday School teacher!

That letter to Santa is exactly what I want for Christmas next year. I don't have a child with Autism, but I do have a six year old son with Down Syndrome who has many of the sensory issues you mention in your blog (loud noises give him a meltdown, there are many foods he doesn't eat due to texture, washing his hair, clipping his nails will set him off too....) I definitely appreciate the struggles you face and know the joy a child like yours brings to the family and people that take the time to get to know the child. I also pray that people will demonstrate more tolerance, appreciation of and understanding towards individuals with different abilities. God bless you and your family.
